Sara Mokhavat
Sara Mokhavat studied Film at the University of Art in Tehran. Her novel, The Woman Who Was Found at the Lost & Found, was published in Iran in 2016. She also wrote and directed the play Goodbye My Cherry Orchard. In 2019, she began her career in film with her debut short film, Shogoon. Her second short film, Private, was showcased at the 57th Chicago Film Festival. She has contributed to the online magazine Markaz Review, where her nonfiction stories and essays were published. Her next short film, Lovebirds, was released in 2021. During the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, she collaborated with Saqi Books on a collection showcasing art and writing, which led to the publication of Woman. Life, Freedom in
London in 2023. Her latest project, the short film Home, tells the story of people forced to live under dictatorship and their doomed fate.
Sara Mokhavat won the “Directors Without Borders” award at the Discover Film Awards in 2023 for her short film Private. This film was also a semi-finalist at the Miami Short Film Festival.

A hard of hearing elder woman, stuck in the elevator, struggles to make sense of the happenings outside and get out. She is hard of hearing older lady, but she doesn’t need to listen at all. She spots something bizarre from the window of her apartment. She gets stuck in the elevator into which she just rushed. She struggles to get help, but no one seems to care enough. For her, something catastrophic is unfolding out there, yet she is utterly helpless to figure out what. She gets devastated by the minute, wondering why not even her children would come to rescue her. Did she miss something everyone else did not?
