These paintings remind you of landscapes<\/b>. Yet they are not landscapes. They remind you of the objects <\/b>that you have seen once but forgotten about their existence. Yet they are not the representations of those objects. These paintings made out of color fields take you to that mind- scapes<\/b> that you feel residing inside you. Yet they are not the metascapes manifest in your thoughts. Simultaneously they represent all that one knows and negate the same with the same verve. These paintings of Rajendra Patil<\/b> unsettle the idea of viewing<\/b>; a comfortable notion of viewing art. They appear before you as abstract paintings<\/b> but they give you the suggestions of figures embedded in there. The more one tries to decipher the material nature of figures the more one gets far away from the material world<\/b>. Patil plays with this idea of ambiguity, the notion of firmness and fickleness. Seen in a larger perspective his works come out of the philosophical awareness that negates the thing-ness of things and the singular meaning-making<\/b>. There is a constant interweaving of the concrete <\/b>and the abstract <\/b>in these paintings that helps the viewer to enter and exit these paintings with a renewed vigor search. The pleasure the viewer on the one hand and on the other they transport them to new planes of thoughts about life and the materialistic surroundings<\/b>; from there to the higher planes of philosophical thinking.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Hailing from the \u2018school of abstraction\u2019, Patil\u2019s works have been primarily inspired by his constant journeys and the visuals that he imbibes during these trips. An artist who does not click pictures for\u00a0further reference to create his paintings, Patil makes use of his eyes and mind to extract the essence of what he has seen while on the trip. They reappear before him, while he is in his studio and at his canvas as fields of vision. Patil makes innumerable drawings in black and white as if they were the efforts to capture these visions and feelings. But when it comes to paintings he does not try to copy these drawings into paintings. Paintings are autonomous bodies for him. They vibrate with a different life; as he captures the visions at a different pace and different color scheme.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Considering the masters like Rothko, Kandinsky, and Klee in mind, and keeping the artistic notions propounded by Prabhakar Kolte and Prabhakar Barwe as his guiding principles, Patil creates his\u00a0<\/span>paintings as an effort to understand and recreate the essence of life and its visions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The vast fields that he paints both in monochrome and colors become a sort of fluid base for the object-like images to float in. These works could be called texts <\/b>that deconstruct their own textuality in their painterly manifestations. They do not fix the meanings within themselves; instead, they let the viewer read <\/b>into the paintings to eke out their own meanings<\/b>. According to the artist, abstraction is the core of visual thinking<\/b> and his whole effort is to get into the essence of both material and non-material aspects of life.<\/span><\/p>
