Director’s note
Why am I so fascinated by Stinky Manuscripts that I want to make it?
Humans have always been in need of being seen, attention and communication, but in recent years and the current world situation, we feel such needs more than ever, and not only all the advances in technology, online world, etc., cannot help us in the way of freedom from loneliness and not required to communicate with each other, but also it has aggravated such needs even more for us. while such needs would be covered by attention and companionship , and the point is the human indifferent to such simple communications. Isaac is a symbol of our entire today’s society on the planet. Isaac is the only character in our film who has a name, and the others are all the people around us, whose names are not even our concern, but their smallest behavior can have the biggest impact on our lives. Such individuals’ indifferences are in line with ignoring the surroundings by Isaac himself. This is a disgrace to each and every one of us, how we are not paying attention to what we want.
About Author:
Amirhossein Payandeh Nasb, 27 years old, director and writer of the short films Penguin and Herman. He is also the author of the stage plays Khdayan’s Referendum, Adolf, and Meeting with Death and the screenplay of My current movie.
About the birth of Manuscripts, he says:
The starting point of all these complicated lines can be found in the first months of the spread of the Coronavirus. At that time, I was the only seller of a shoe-shop. Like almost all other governments, the Iranian government had ordered a quarantine, but I had to follow the order of my employer – keep the shop open – which is against the quarantine regulations. I keep it open and since the government agents are constantly patrolling the areas, I kept the shutters half-opened to be able to take quick necessary actions. One of the days in the store, I was sitting on a stool and as I was watching passers-by, I thought what would happen if I kill myself now? Who will notice? In fact, in the time of the spread of the virus, human communications were like prediction of the future and every individual was nothing but a possible virus-carrying machine. Even from the half body people view, some of whom were wearing two or three gloves of different fabrics and quickly running away from each other, I could understand how much people were afraid of each other, and at those moments, the human society and civilization that we had been trying to develop for thousands of years had disappeared and only individuality was important. that was the time when Isaac a lonely man was born.
