LONG SYNOPSIS
Vens a cercar-me?(Can you come?) is an intimate short film that tells from the customs and the perspective of a family the moments before and after facing the results of a possible cancer. A story that more than half of Spanish society has had to live or will live directly or indirectly at some point in their lives.
Vens a cercar-me? (Can you come?) It is an intimate short film that tells from the customs and the look of a family the moments before and after facing the results of a possible cancer. A story that more than half of Spanish society has had to live or will live directly or indirectly at some point in their lives, according to SEOM, the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology. This short film looks at a call from a working day and every day that threatens all stability and reformulates the scale of values of a modern family. A mother who has two children from different fathers, who has lived through two sentimental separations, will go to her eldest son to be able to face the results of brain cancer. The complicity between a son and a mother for hiding the information of what they have just experienced from an eight-year-old girl.
The vision of cancer from three different points directly, indirectly and from ignorance, the mother who is the one who can suffer a disease, the son who can lose what he loves the most, and the daughter who knows nothing and has an ungrateful attitude . The endless hours leading up to it, the car trips, the uncomfortable silences and the waiting in hospitals will provide the information to put the viewer in the anguish of the characters.
The later part in which the viewer will not know what has happened until the end, the tension of some results that make you remember that this story is universal and feel identified because you have already lived it or to remind you that these are the calls that you least expect those that can put a life in check.
Rubén Capilla, born in Mallorca in 1994, has a degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication and currently resides in Barcelona. As a director, scriptwriter and producer, he has made the documentary Lejsara, winner of the international Indocumentari festival in Sabadell (Spain), and has been selected for the Portobello Film Festival (London), with a special mention at the Deepfocus film festival. In addition, the MEDIMED documentary market has expressed interest in having the film form part of its section at the Sitges festival. He has been the director of photography for different projects, including the documentary Revelando a Mario, by director Simó Mateu, for Movistar +, TVE1 and IB3 and winner of the best documentary of the Balearic Islands at the Evolution film fest. He has directed the photography for the short film Reencuentro (2017), winner of the Notodofilmfest festival, and the medium-length film Lo que ocurre en Cap Vermell (2018) directed by Roberto Pérez Toledo. In addition to two short film advertising spots for the Hollywood director and screenwriter Ernest Riera, screenwriter of films such as A 47 metros.
He also has extensive experience as a director, screenwriter and director of photography in the world of music videos, having made more than 20. Among them, the MDMAR – 9 oclock music video stands out, which was a finalist at the 2019 Soundie Music Awards international festival. The OR – Aire américa music video was also a finalist at the Menorca Festival. In addition, the Bruno Sotos – El eco de la calle music video was present at the 2020 Latin Grammys. Vens a cercar-me? (Do you come to find me? – Can you come?) is his first work in fiction short film.
